Shaping improvised music as if it were a composition – and breathing life into a composed work through spontaneity: this is the mission that brings the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester and Johanna Summer together in this programme. For years, the multi-award-winning pianist has been moving effortlessly between the worlds of classical music and jazz as an improviser on international stages. Her artistic approach of combining improvisation with classical works is being presented in a symphonic context for the first time. In this exciting collaboration, the SKO and Johanna Summer will perform Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto in a historical string version. In doing so, they will find ways to create space for improvisation and spontaneous interaction between the musicians, allowing Beethoven’s masterpiece to be viewed from new perspectives.
