When music conjures up images in your mind, it's like watching a great film! This programme brings together masterful works that stir emotions like a gripping film. Bernard Herrmann's ‘Psycho’ suite sends shivers down our spines with its shrill string attacks. Miklós Rózsa, Oscar-winning film composer (Ben Hur, El Cid), shows his other side in his concerto for string orchestra: virtuosic and dramatic, but full of symphonic depth.
And then comes goosebumps in slow motion: Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings has been used more often than almost any other piece for great cinema moments. For the finale, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, pioneer of film music, invites us to dream with his Symphonic Serenade. Hollywood glamour meets Viennese charm – an opulent final chord for a musical journey on the silver screen.
