In homage to Philip Glass, who will celebrate his 90th birthday in 2027, accordion virtuoso Martynas Levickis has put together a highly personal programme. A wide range of references runs through the music: in a newly composed suite, he reworks folk songs from his native Lithuania. In his ‘Tyrol Concerto’, Philip Glass repeatedly incorporates elements of folk music from Austria, the birthplace of the accordion. The spiritual undertones in Glass’s work find their counterpart in Marian songs by Tavener and Piazzolla.

Following the huge success of the ‘Tango Passion’ programme, with which Levickis and the SKO captivated audiences in major concert halls and at festivals, ‘Roots’ is a new, tailor-made project for this inspiring collaboration. What does this new programme sound like? ‘Down-to-earth, soulful, breathtaking!’, says Levickis.
