The Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, founded in 1945, consists of 17 full-time musicians from 10 nations. The orchestra's repertoire is varied: it focuses on string orchestra and chamber music literature, but also performs symphonic works with an enlarged orchestra. In addition to classical music from baroque to contemporary, the program also includes genre excursions into jazz, rock and electro.
Around 90 concerts are performed each season, including up to two intercontinental tours and numerous trips to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and other European countries.
1st round audition requirement is the first movement of one of the following concertos:
Hoffmeister: Concerto for Viola in D Major
Stamitz: Concerto for Viola in D Major Op. 1
Mozart: Concerto for Viola in A Major K. 622 (after Clarinet Concerto)
Mozart: Sinfonia Concertante in E flat Major K. 364
Schubert: Arpeggione Sonata D 821
2nd round audition requirements will be:
Repertory of free choice 15-20 min, at least 2 contrasting epochs, at least 1 piece for Viola solo
3rd round audition requirements will be:
Chamber music pieces together with SKO members, excerpts from:
Mozart: String Quartet in G Major K. 387, 1st movement
Schubert: String Quartet in D Minor "Death and the Maiden, 2nd movement
Mendelssohn: String Symphony No. 8 in D Major, 2nd movement
Schönberg: Verklärte Nacht (part: 2nd Viola), m. 132–187 & m. 249–269
