Bill Laurance, co-founder of Snarky Puppy and a British pianist, keyboardist and composer, already has five Grammys sitting on his grand piano. There are likely to be more to come. On his album “Bloom”, he unfolds a full-screen panorama of dreamscapes to immerse oneself in and drift away – with rich string sounds, piano improvisations, crystal-clear melodies and hypnotic rhythms, and a sonic density rarely found in that fusion wonderland between classical, jazz, pop, Latin swing and minimal. A dream project, then, for a partner as attuned to fusion as the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester! “Bloom” is the most classical of his albums, says Laurance, who is also a much sought-after composer for film and dance. In it, he returns to the roots of his classical piano training. He was also inspired by his own child’s ability to “lift the veil of reality and create fantasy worlds”.
